The Hyatt Regency is coming to hipster city Portland by the end of 2019. Construction started earlier this week. Conveniently, the new hotel will be across the street from the Oregon Convention Center, the largest convention center in the Pacific Northwest.
Developer Mortenson contributed $150 million, whereas the regional government agency Metro provided $74 million.
This $224M hotel will feature 600 rooms and 32,000 square feet of meeting space, dining options, gym, and other amenities. Along with this hotel, there will be more jobs available that are tourism and hospitality related. This is great news for those searching for work in the Portland metro area.
The Hyatt Regency aims to create an Oregon-cultured environment with this new asset. The location is perfect—there are many shops, restaurants, public transportation, and venues nearby, so this is convenient for visitors. In addition, the hotel will set aside 500 out of the 600 guestrooms specifically for conventions. Because the location is right across the street from the convention center, the hotel expects more visitors and tourists downtown. This groundbreaking news is great news for the city!
