Japan, One Year Later
In discussions of commercial real estate, economic conditions are often mentioned as if they were weather events, uncontrollable circumstances which investors must plan around. Less discussed than such things as cap rates and market demand are actual weather conditions, though from time to time, natural events do indeed play a part in the economic health of a city, region, or entire nation.
March 11th marked the one year anniversary of the disastrous earthquake and tsunami that struck Northeastern Japan. While economic considerations pale in comparison to the staggering loss of life, they do come into play as we think about Japan’s recovery in the wake of this event.
