Barry Sternlicht is “The Man”
Ever wonder how people become successful? How people go from nothing to the top of the world? Or does unabashed success seem like an unattainable pipe dream that happens to “other” people, much like winning the lottery? In this video courtesy of the Wall Street Journal, Barry Sternlicht essentially gives the humble and abbreviated version of how he went from an unemployed 31 year old with a baby on the way, to the CEO of the biggest hotel company in the world just seven short years later. Color us at Llenrock impressed.
Suffice it to say, if you dream big, you better have big cajones, and a big game plan as well. Real estate is an entrepreneurial business, and it only rewards those who take risk. As we are officially in between Hanukkah and Christmas, we should point out that being Jewish doesn’t hurt either. We don’t know why…we’re just saying is all. See: Sam Zell, Mort Zuckerman, Leona Helmsley, Abe Pollin, Samuel LeFrak, Leonard Stern, Melvin Simon, Sheldon Solow, Sheldon Adelson, Carl Berg, Neil Bluhm, Guilford Glazer, Louis Gonda, the Pritzker Family…etc. And if you don’t know who any of those guys are….you should. They are all billionaires who made their fortunes in income producing real estate.

Well said, Dave. Every video I’ve ever seen of him, Barry Sternlicht always seems so calm and poised,a reason for his success perhaps. Also, check out this interview he did with Mario Bartiromo back in November. He discusses how he became successful, how he looks at the world and how he became who he is today.
